| Kai-Zen |
| Kai-Zen is the brainchild of Roberto and Chris Wood. Originally starting life as a small night hosted at The George in Hitchin, it was to be a platform to showcase their adoration for class underground electronica, with the emphasis based on an uncompromising approach to spinning music. After a couple of events, the lads met fellow music connoisseur Kieran Baker, and after his amalgamation into the Kai-Zen family the decision was made to move venue to the renowned Public Life in Shoreditch. The day-rave was a success, although it was still felt that something was amiss, and things were taken back to the drawing board to see what could be done. It was at this time that friends from both Oxford & London were discussing how they would really like to get involved with a new project. Dave & Andy had been enjoying a blossoming relationship with Oxfords flagship House & Techno night Slide for over two years, whereas Chris Page had been concerning himself with developing his production skills, putting his DJing second, preferring only to DJ every now and then. Meeting up with the Kai-Zen crew at a Slide shindig at Dex Brixton gave the two groups the chance to lay their ideas on the table. Rob agreed to having all three lads down to DJ at the next event, and the ball was set in motion. The night held at the stylish Clapham venue Inigo turned out to be a huge success, with the different contributions from each individual member collaborating to form a solid new team. With a winning new formula set out, and Ian French signing up to complete the team, Kai-Zen was now the stable and exciting brand that had been initially envisaged. Launching the fortnightly podcasts featuring heavy-hitters like Samuel L Sessions and Deepchild has begun to cement the name as one of London’s most promising new ventures, and it doesn’t stop there either. Since Dave & Andy also come from a promoting background, and know Oxford intimately, Kai-Zen will be branching out to host events there in 2010, alongside nights in the capital. Indeed the future certainly looks bright for this endeavour, and seeing as though the name ‘kai-zen’ is Japanese for ‘improvement’, it’s fitting that this is a team of young lads who are committed to making better your clubbing experience, and ensuring that each event they host is more memorable than the last. If House and Techno are your flavours on the musical menu, you could do far worse than to entrust your nights entertainment to these guys. |
