One for all you Deep House afficionado’s, Dave’s new release is a fine slice of warm-up Dance. Recently landed on Endemic, it comes complete with a ‘Deep’ reconstruction, a remix from Moojaa (which as far as I can tell, appears to be just a reworking of the original mix), and the superb ‘Soulight Perception’. Adding layers of atmospherics to James’ foundations, the Soulight remix sets its sights firmly on building tension, and the end result is the sort of across-the-board number that would feel equally at home in the sets of Techno DJ’s, as it would Progressive stalwarts. I hope to see much more from these two in the future, as House music could greatly benefit from their collaborative studio time, and it’s genuinely nice to see lesser-known talent providing a solid argument for the case of independent record labels. Great stuff. |

Jesse Rose’s right-hand man Oliver $ drops a killer block party chugger on Rose’s Made To Play offshoot label, and it’s a total belter. Firing in with crowd samples, sirens, an cheers, it’s pure Chicago groove. Boompty bassline beats grind away under an explicitly-worded vox, conspiring to create the sort of infectious driving House music that could be played for ten minutes straight. It’s no wonder it got played twice at our last event, with resident KiERaN and Deepgroove themselves both falling for it’s full-frontal charms. Oliver is a dab hand at this sort of high calibre Dance, and there’s few out there who can handle funk the way he does. The vocal says it best: “Hold on, I gotta start this motherfuckin’ record over again... I’m still on this shit.” |

You always know where you’re at with Kling Klong. Hailing from Stuttgart, the label belongs to Martin Eyerer and Rainer himself, and has been providing a platform for the likes of Hermanez, Heartik, Kaiserdisco, Lützenkirchen and many more since 2005. Pleasing House and Techno aficionados in equal measure, their music policy is both uncompromising and forward-thinking. This new release from Weichhold is a relentless barrage of tumbling synths that builds and builds whilst (very subtly) the underlying strings add a slight, but significant, tone of drama. This is big-room Tech-House that works it’s way into your head, then sets up camp for the rest of the night. Definitely the sort of record that would leave you with a “what the fuck was that?” expression on your face, whilst you pray to the heavens that your phone recorded enough of it to play to your friendly record shop owner the following day. It reminds me of the sort of material that Petar Dundov has been quietly blessing us with over the years (‘Oasis’ in particular), and it will be receiving my full support next time i’m in town. |

You’re all aware of the notorious WetYourSelf! Sunday all-nighters at London’s flagship nightclub Fabric. Cormac, one of the founders of the brand, has crafted a dark techy workout that’s very much the sound of now. Pulsating beats are the order of the day, and fans of Minilogue will find plenty to scream about from a riff that sounds like it’s been created from the bowels of the infamous Clavia Nord synthesizer. Ellen Allien’s BPitch imprint has picked up the track, and Ellen herself used it as the opener for her Werkschau (or ‘Showcase’) compilation at the start of this year. Clearly Cormac has been putting his keen ear for cutting-edge music to good use, and it’s always pleasing to see the new breed of London’s effervescent music scene stepping into the foreground to show us what they can do. Keep your eyes peeled, as I have a feeling all of the WYS! Lads have much to share in the near future, via their newborn label. |
